NEWS: Service Parts Logistics and NEC Packard Bell

Johannesburg, 27 March 2006] – Service Parts Logistics (SPL), the largest parts solutions provider in Africa, today formally announced for the first time that it is the sole parts reseller in Africa for NEC Packard Bell.

“We believe this extension of our capability confirms that our model, originally pioneered with Apple and HP, is one that is extremely acceptable to both our principals and our partners,” commented CEO, Steve Cox. “We continue to work closely with service providers (SPs) to customise stock holdings in line with the local installed base and projected sales. We believe that this sort of detailed and focused attention to parts distribution is vital to maintain the required levels of after sales service.

“As is the case with Apple, Fujitsu Siemens and HP, our National Logistics Control centre in Randpark Ridge provides us with the ability to plan and distribute stock into our regional offices situated in Midrand, KZN and Cape Town and thus provide a high level first pass fill rate into our strategic customers greatly reducing their repair times,” continued Cox.

“One of the major benefits that has arisen from our regional presence has been our ability to provide all our business partners with the comfort that their customers are being supplied nationally at service levels which allows them to deliver world-class IT services, on a par with Europe,” concluded Cox.

NEC Packard Bell is an entity within the Japanese-based NEC Corp, the latter being one of the world’s largest IT companies with annual revenues well in excess of $40 billion per year and a market capitalisation of over $12.5 billion.

Johannesburg, 17 March 2006] – Service Parts Logistics (SPL) today announced the details of a new BEE deal. This latest transaction sees the ‘Lelapa Trust’ becoming an equity partner in SPL.

“We are very excited to announce an empowerment deal that sees the Lelapa Trust acquire an equity stake in SPL. The Lelapa Trust is the empowerment vehicle for HDI (historically disadvantaged individuals) staff within the Microtek group. We have over the last year, been assessing BEE partners who could add value to our company while not compromising the culture within SPL. We are pleased that ownership and benefit can be passed onto the people who make our company tick,” commented Steve Cox, CEO of SPL.

“Our senior HDI staff have now also become co-owners of the business together with the Lelapa Trust. We believe that the first place to start empowerment is within our own community. The Lelapa Trust, which means ‘family’, will directly benefit our employees.

“We are fully committed to do the right thing for the business and reward our people for their loyalty and hard work and ensure we continue to be an entrepreneurial company,” continued Cox. “This has been our key for success in the past.”

“As part of the above deal, Craig Chetty, Vernon Desai and Yogan Naiker have been appointed to the board of SPL,” concluded Cox. “We have already achieved tremendous success in developing and training our people to management positions and working hard in the procurement and enterprise development arenas, and these latest appointments underpin that scenario.”

SPL now feels well placed to better serve its customers and community and to fully take its place in the transformation process.

[Johannesburg, 31 January 2006] – Service Parts Logistics (SPL), the largest parts solutions provider in the Middle East and Africa, today announced it has obtained a satisfactory Empowerdex rating in a recent exercise.

“We are delighted with this initial rating,” commented Steve Cox, CEO of Microtek, the holding company of SPL, “especially as we already have planned other BEE initiatives that will enable us to achieve an even better rating within the coming months.”

The ‘B’ rates SPL as a satisfactory broad-based BEE contributor with unconstrained operational capacity.

“It is always gratifying to see strategic plans coming to fruition,” continued Cox. “We took a decision several years ago to recruit on attitude, train through mentoring and promote from within. This has now paid huge dividends as we review our historically disadvantaged individuals (HDI) that have blossomed, now dominate our key sales roles and are ready for management positions.

“Our training statistic now consists of 88% of the total workforce and 42% of HDI have been contribution factors to this goal.

“Our total workforce is now over 60% HDI and 50% at senior management level.

“We are committed to enterprise development as we see this as the real future of South Africa to build entrepreneurs,” concluded Cox. “Our own business comes from this stable and we will always consider ourselves entrepreneurs and encourage and train others seeking to run this lesser walked path.”

Empowerdex is an independent economic empowerment rating and research agency, founded in 2001 by Vuyo Jack and Chia-Chao Wu.
