About this host bus adapter
A host bus adapter connects a server to external storage or to a storage network, using Fibre Channel, SAS or SCSI. Unlike a RAID controller, it passes the drives or storage volumes straight through to the server rather than building arrays itself. Adapters differ in interface, speed, number of ports and bracket height, and some are mezzanine cards for blade servers. Signs of a fault are links that will not come up, paths to storage that fail or flap, or an adapter the server no longer detects.
