About this battery pack
A battery pack powers a laptop or other portable device when it is unplugged. It holds rechargeable cells, lithium-ion or lithium-polymer in most recent devices, and usually a small circuit that reports its charge and condition to the device. Every battery loses capacity with age and charging. Signs that one is worn out include short running times, a device that shuts down while the battery still shows charge, a battery warning from the operating system, a battery that will not charge, or a case that has begun to swell. A swollen battery should be removed promptly and not charged again.
