About this tape drive
A tape drive writes backups to removable data cartridges that can be stored away from the server. Each generation of drive reads and writes its own cartridges and can usually read older ones, but not newer ones. Drives are internal, fitting a server bay, or external in their own case, and connect by a storage interface that must match the server's controller. Signs of trouble are repeated requests for a cleaning cartridge, write or read errors, cartridges that will not load or eject, and a drive the backup software cannot see.
