About this network module
A network module is a plug-in card that gives a modular switch or router extra ports or capabilities. In a chassis switch these take the form of line cards and supervisor cards; a fixed switch accepts uplink or stacking modules; a branch router takes interface, voice or service modules. Each one is built for a specific chassis family and slot type, so they are not interchangeable. Faults show as ports that will not come up, the chassis flagging the card as failed or unknown, or repeated resets.
