A printer drive assembly is the motor and gear mechanism that rotates the drum, fuser, rollers and other moving components inside a printer. In many machines one main drive powers several of these through gears and clutches, while others are turned by their own separate motors. When a drive wears out or fails, you may hear grinding, clicking or squealing sounds, see a motor error message on the control panel, notice banding that repeats at regular intervals across the page, or find that some components stop turning although the rest of the machine keeps running.
