About this optical drive
An optical drive reads CDs and DVDs, and most can also write to them, while some handle Blu-ray discs too. Laptop versions are slim units that sit in a side bay and carry a bezel matching the casing; desktop versions are larger and fit a standard bay. A drive that is wearing out may refuse to read or burn discs, show repeated read errors, have a tray that sticks or will not open, or stop being detected by the system. A dirty lens causes similar faults, so try a cleaning disc before replacing the drive.
