About this memory module

A memory module is the working store a computer uses to hold programs and data while they are actively being run. Each module must suit the system board it fits: the memory generation, the physical shape, the speed rating and, in servers, whether it is registered and error-correcting all need to agree. Fitting mismatched modules may prevent the machine starting or force everything to run at the pace of the slowest stick. Signs of failing memory include beeps or warning lights at power-on, crashes and blue screens, memory faults recorded in the system log, or the machine reporting less memory than is actually installed.

How to choose a replacement RAM

Is this the right part?

Find the part number on the label stuck to the module. Compare the generation, form and speed shown there with the modules already in the machine, or with the system documentation. In a server, follow the manual for which slots to populate. The manufacturer's part number for this listing is 5M30V06912.

Not sure? Send us the number from the label, or your machine's serial number, and we will confirm the match before you order.

Questions buyers ask about memory modules

How do I know which memory my computer takes?

Match the generation (DDR3, DDR4 or DDR5), the form (SODIMM for laptops, DIMM for desktops and servers) and, for a server, whether it takes registered or unbuffered modules. The label on a module already in the machine shows all three, and its part number is the surest match.

Can I mix memory modules of different sizes or speeds?

Usually yes, within the same generation and type, but every module then runs at the speed of the slowest one, and some machines need matched pairs to run in dual-channel mode. Servers are stricter: never mix registered and unbuffered modules, and follow the server's memory population guide.
