About this hard drive
A hard drive is a storage device that keeps data on rotating magnetic platters, with read and write heads carried across them on a moving arm. Drives vary in interface, rotational speed, physical size and capacity, and a server drive normally sits in a carrier made for a particular server family. Warning signs of failure include clicking or grinding sounds, much slower access, read errors, alerts from the drive's built-in health monitoring, a fault light on a server unit, or the system failing to recognise the drive. Copy off whatever data you can before swapping it out.

How do I choose a replacement hard drive for my server?
Match the interface (SAS or SATA), the size (2.5-inch or 3.5-inch), the capacity and the spindle speed of the drive you are replacing. Server drives usually sit in a tray made for that server range, so the manufacturer's part number on the drive label is the surest match. Search for it at the top of this page.
Can I put a larger drive into my RAID array?
Usually, as long as the interface and speed match: the controller uses only as much of the larger drive as the other drives in the array hold. Check that the controller and the server support that capacity, especially on older machines.
What warranty does SPL give on this part?
