About this cooling fan
A cooling fan pushes air through a computer or over a heatsink so that heat is drawn away from the processor, graphics chip, storage drives and power circuitry. Server fans are commonly hot-plug units which the machine monitors and can identify individually. Wear or failure shows up as grinding, rattling or whining sounds, an error message during start-up, running temperatures above normal, the system throttling its speed to compensate, or shutdowns when working hard.
