About this transfer unit
A transfer unit carries the toner image across from the drum and places it onto the sheet. Colour laser machines commonly use a belt that gathers each colour in sequence, while other designs fit a roller positioned below the drum. This component wears down with every page printed, and many machines flag it when replacement is due. Fading or patchy colour, colours sitting out of alignment with one another, pale patches, or a transfer or belt warning on the control panel all point to wear.
