The printer engine board, also called the DC controller, drives the mechanical workings of a laser printer, controlling the motors, fuser heater, sensors and paper path under direction from the formatter. A high-voltage power supply board, often separate, charges the drum, developer and transfer components. Typical signs of failure are motor, fuser or sensor errors that remain after those parts have been checked, prints that come out blank or with a grey haze, or a machine that halts partway through its start-up sequence.
