About this drive carrier
A drive carrier, sometimes called a caddy, tray or sled, is the frame that holds a hard drive or SSD so it can be fitted into a laptop, desktop or server bay. In servers it also carries the latch, handle and status lights, and lets the drive be swapped while the system keeps running. Each carrier is specific to a machine family and generation. You may need a replacement when moving a drive into an empty bay, when the latch or handle has broken, or when a drive arrived without a carrier. A carrier that sits loosely can make the drive drop out.
