A display back cover forms the rear casing of a laptop lid, sitting behind the screen itself. It shields the panel from knocks, provides the fixing points for the hinges, and on many machines also routes the wireless aerials and webcam lead along its inner rim. Typical reasons for replacement are cracks or dents in the lid, heavy damage to the finish, or a hinge anchor that has torn free so the screen will not stay at its set angle. Leaving a loose hinge mount can let it stress and crack the panel.
