About this tape drive
A tape drive records backup data onto removable cartridges, which can then be kept apart from the server for safe storage. Each drive generation works with its own cartridges and can normally read those from earlier generations, though not from later ones. Some drives sit inside a server bay; others are external units in their own housing, and either way the storage interface must suit the server's controller. Warning signs include frequent demands for a cleaning cartridge, read or write failures, cartridges that refuse to load or eject, and the backup software failing to detect the drive.
