About this tape cartridge
A tape cartridge holds backup data for a tape drive and can be stored away from the server to protect it. Tapes come in several formats, and each format has generations; a drive can only read and write the generations it supports. Cleaning cartridges are a separate type that clean the drive head and wear out after a fixed number of passes. A worn or damaged tape typically causes read or write errors that follow the same cartridge between drives, or the cartridge may refuse to load at all.
